NIC mission
NIC induces various organizations to create a friendly surrounding for NGOs development and supports cooperation of West Lithuania NGOs with other organizations in Lithuania and foreign countries, informs, consults and represents their interests in governmental institutions.
NIC vision
The Klaipeda NGO Information Center in order to promote the evolution of civil society and democracy in Lithuania will become the main NGO information source and the main international and cross-sector cooperation institution that unites nongovernmental organizations working in Klaipeda and all West Lithuania.

NIC aims
I. To strengthen institutions of third sector by informing and consulting them about NGO sector and its development and to improve the quality of NIC provided services depending on mutual communication and feedback.
II. To represent NGOs interests and induce their transparent partnership with authorities and sponsors.
III. To improve and strengthen the image of Nongovernmental organizations in Lithuania and outside the country.
IV. Create a positive image of West Lithuania NGOs in the eyes of governmental and business organizations.
NIC history
Klaipeda Nongovernmental Organizations’ Information Center was officially established on the 28th of August in 1997.
On the 26th of May in 1999 Center together with NGO Information centers from Vilnius, Kaunas and Alytus established a network of Lithuania nongovernmental organizations’ information centers – TINKLAS (The Net), which mission is cooperation of nongovernmental organizations’ information centers in order to develop civil society.
In 1998 the Center helped Klaipeda city municipality to create the circumstances for providing financial support for NGOs and further develops partnership contacts with Klaipeda city municipality and municipalities from other districts in order to create clear and transparent mechanism of NGO financial support.
All these centers together with other partners signed “Coalition for philanthropy” treaty in 2000 and are seeking to develop the idea of philanthropy in Lithuania and give each citizen of Lithuania the right to assigning up to 2% of their citizens income tax to preferred nonprofit organization.

NIC main activities
DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION
Center in order to create a structure for information system mechanism looks for, gathers, systemizes and spreads the newest information concerning nongovernmental organizations and their activities to other NGOs, governmental institutions, business structures, sponsors and others who are interested in third sector (support, laws, NGO activities).
CONSULTATIONS
In pursuance of expanding organizations’ capacities and the development of the third sector in the region constant target consultations (establishment of an organization, preparation of bylaws and statutes, legal questions, preparation of application, fundraising, liquidation, etc.) for all interested (NGO leaders and members, citizens, governmental institutions and sponsors) or other interested structures are constantly provided.
TRAININGS
Center organizes and leads trainings and seminars about common third sector themes for nongovernmental organizations’ leaders and members in order to raze qualification of people who are working in NGO sector. Training spheres – beginning with preparation of application, creating organizational structure, strategical planning and ending with inner conflicts, development of personality as leader, teambuilding.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE THIRD SECTOR
Center propagates and spreads information about activities and really important work that is done by nongovernmental organizations of Klaipeda city and West Lithuania through purposeful publications and mass media. Moreover, Center by organizing visits and meetings with the other organizations that are working in the in the region is seeking tight cooperation between NGOs and sponsors and induces their development.
INTERMEDIATION
Center intermediates when solving problems between nongovernmental organizations and governmental institutions or organization inner difficulties. Center initiates round table for discussions between the NGOs in order to solve common problems and consolidate them to cooperate for reaching joint aims.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Center provides technical support for nongovernmental organizations that can not use telephone, fax or do not have internet access; organizations that do not have permanent premises for organizing their meetings and activities; organizations that do not have permanent accountant that would help with proper book-keeping; organizations that do not have enough capacity to organize large-scale activities (conferences, etc.). The Center constantly gathers feedback on the needs of organizations and makes the necessary arrangements to help organizations to gain new capacities.
PHILANTHROPY
Center induces development of philanthropy traditions in the city and whole region by making new contacts and keeping tight relationships that are already made with local businessmen and business companies, presenting and promoting activities carried out by nongovernmental organizations and stimulating mutual cooperation between these two sectors.
NIC structure
Board – it is organization’s governing organ consisted of two representatives from various spheres (NGO, government, science, mass media, etc.) and ten persons in total. The Board carries out the strategic planning, consults the administration in various spheres of work, helps to seek organizational efficiency and represents the organization and its name in Lithuania and foreign countries.
Administration – it is the executable organization’s organ that is coordinated by the director. Administration controls activities of organization, pursue strategic plan, implements projects and monitors the program activities.
Programs – it is the spheres of organization’s activities and their coordinators can independently create and implement plans for improving its performance afterwards they were adopted in the administration. Program coordinators have the freedom to decide how many workers/volunteers will work in a specific program, but they have to be confirmed by the administrator.
