The European Commission is developing a new EU Civil Society Strategy and is seeking input from the public. This strategy aims to support, protect, and empower civil society organizations across the EU. The goal is to strengthen civil society’s role in safeguarding democratic systems and ensuring meaningful engagement in EU policymaking, while also outlining concrete measures to address the shrinking civic space faced by civil society organisations and human rights defenders who actively promote and defend EU values.
The strategy will look at what civil society actors need and the challenges they face. It will also show what measures are already in place to support and protect them, and it will highlight their important role in all areas of EU policy.
Consultation is open until 5 September.
